The animated section in Xanadu accompanied the song "Don't Walk Away", and featured Olivia Newton John as the muse Terpsichore who comes to Earth to help a man (played my Michael Beck) open a roller disco called "Xanadu".

"Don't Walk Away" was planned to be in the film, was written, then the song was dropped, apparently to the displeasure of its writers! After protests the song was re-inserted into the film, but by then the film had no place for it, so a piece had to be written into the story to make the song fit.

With the help of Don Bluth and his team, it was decided that a short animated sequence would be a good way to incorporate the song into the film. Most of the Bluth company was working on The Secret of NIMH, so Don Bluth and a small group of assistants completed the work themselves at Bluth's house.
